Installing MYOB ODBC

Installing MYOB ODBC

Incident Description

The MYOB Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) driver needs to be installed. If this is not done, MYOB Post 3 will display an error in the Debug Log window; “Data Source name not found and no default driver specified”, and you will not be able to use the post or see MYOB configuration tabs in the Options window.

Resolution

The ODBC driver is available for installation from the MYOB installation disk and under normal conditions there will also be an option for installing MYOB ODBC in the Windows Programs menu, which does not require the disk. The installation will not run if a previous version of the ODBC is detected. The following message will be displayed;

[ODBC Administration Window]

Note: MYOB ODBC v6 is available from MYOB Premier 10 and Accounting Plus 16 installation disks. MYOB ODBC v7 became available when Premier 11 and Accounting Plus 17 were shipped out in late 2007. ODBC 8 ships with Premier 12/Accounting Plus 18.

[Example of DSN Entries]

1. Check if the ODBC is installed. Go to the Start menu, Settings, Control Panel, then Administrative Tools, then Data Sources (ODBC).

2. Under the Drivers tab, check if there is an entry for MYOB ODBC.

3. If a MYOB ODBC driver is not present, proceed to step 7.

4. Under the User DSN tab, remove any MYOB DSN entries.

5. Click OK to close the ODBC Data Source window.

[Add/Remove Programs] 6. In Control Panel, select Add or Remove Programs.

7. Select the existing MYOB ODBC Direct, click Change/Remove then select Remove and click next to run the remove wizard.

With the old version removed, the new ODBC can now be installed. [MYOB ODBC Program Group]
8. Go to the Start menu, Programs, MYOB Premier v10, MYOB Tools, MYOB ODBC, then Install MYOB ODBC Direct v6.

[MYOB ODBC Installer] 9. Follow the on screen prompts to complete the install process. We recommend setting the icon install directory to the existing MYOB Program folder.

10. To test the successful installation of the ODBC drivers, start the Post program. [Post Debug Screen]
11. Click the Debug Messages tab. A message displaying Connection Successful indicates the ODBC has been correctly installed.

12. Posting can now proceed.
